I know it makes no sense at all - pure nonsense.  But what is not nonsense is the importance of a good cup of coffee and a daily dose of chocolate. 

That is one main reason why I opened Jars Garden Cafe & Coffee Lounge

It was to bring these two simple indulgences together; offered without the pomp and circumstance of a foreign language menu or navigating your way through a line of robotic coffee drinkers.

At JARS we serve delicious coffee in a ceramic mug and every table has free chocolate, unlike other coffee shops that only serve in styrofoam and charge you for everything. 

Our coffee can be served hot, iced or blended; flavored to your taste and whipped cream is always an option.  For your sweet tooth, there is a bowl of hershey's kisses on every table.  We also have fresh brownies, cinnamon rolls and a variety of muffins (mini and mega) to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The day before we officially opened the cafe, I held a meeting with my entire staff.  We had all been working very hard the past seven days, cleaning, painting, and organizing the cafe and I thought it best to sit everyone down and just chat.  I popped a bottle of champagne, poured a little bit for everyone and we toasted to our upcoming endeavor.  The main topic I wanted to discuss with everyone was my personal formula for success and how we all must contribute to that.  

The SEVEN C's to Success for JARS GARDEN CAFE
1) Customer Service:  smile, be efficient, honest and informative
2) Cleanliness:  always look to clean something, always
3) Consistency: from the food and drinks we prepare to the way we speak
4) Costs: always be mindful of the costs associated with each menu item and avoid unnecessary waste
5) Coffee: we serve coffee, be knowledgeable and helpful to our guests concerning their choices
6) Community: we will support our neighbors an offer discounts to military, students and seniors; we will have a "charity" of the month and be active in local organizations
7) Comic Relief:  humor and laughter is important, business is business but being happy and having fun during the day is essential

And while there are several other "C's" that will lead to success; such as Communication, Compassion, and Courage, this is my unscientific recipe for success.

This list is actually posted on my office door, visible to everyone; even our vendors, delivery personal and friends and family who adventure beyond our service area. 
While we have only been open three months now, each day we learn something new, meet new people and remind ourselves of the SEVEN C's. 
I am very confident that by following this guide of the SEVEN C's to success; Jars Garden Cafe will flourish.

For those of you who may not know and are simply curious about how the name JARS came to be, here is the short long story. 

My original idea was to call the cafe My Living Room.  It conveyed a personal and comfortable message, it was short and sounded fun to be able invite people to visit "my living room".   The more I discussed it with family and friends it was quite evident that it did not have the same impact on them that I had hoped.  We even tried to use the variations of The Living Room and Your Living Room but they were also lacking something. 

The cafe had been previously called the Garden Cafe but was nothing like the name indicated.  It was a diner / deli; numerous egg options and grilled sandwiches yet nothing very garden about it at all.  I liked the name and wanted to utilize the concept but needed to personalize it a bit.

So after several sleepless nights, hundreds of adjectives floating around in my brain, making notes on every scrap piece of paper I could find, it finally came to me and J A R S was born. 

These are the initials of the most important people in my life: my daughter Jennifer, my father Alvin, step-mom Rose and the "S" well that is for me,Steve.  It works !  It is personal and meaningful.  It also allows for an interesting theme (mason jar drinking glasses, mini jars for salt and pepper and more). 

So there you have it.  JARS Garden Cafe; and yes we serve fresh fruit and salads from the garden.  A bright new coat of paint, gourmet coffees including latte's, cappuccino's and chai tea; hot, iced or blended (frappe's) and we are ready to serve you. 

That is how JARS became JARS Garden Cafe . . . Come for the coffee, stay for the food.
